Trump Says Diddy May Have Been ‘Mistreated’ in Trial
President Donald Trump is back in the spotlight once again with his responses about a possible intervention in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ case. During the August 1 episode of Newsmax’s Finnerty, Trump was asked if he would be likely to issue a pardon for the hip-hop artist after his last month.
At the beginning of July, Combs, founder of Bad Boy Records, was convicted on one federal offense, transportation with intent to commit prostitution. Although his name was cleared for sex trafficking, racketeering, and other alleged crimes. The seven-week-long case, full of testimonies and various discussions, involved many twists. Singer Cassie Ventura, ex-girlfriend of Combs, claimed that he abused her and trafficked her during their past relationship. Sean defended himself and refused to admit any wrongdoing, claiming he was completely innocent.
When Finnerty asked Trump about his plans for a possible pardon, the 45th president seemed uncertain but not disinterested. “Well, he was essentially, I guess, sort of half-innocent,” the politician stated, followed by ambiguous yet somehow flattering hints. “He’s still in jail or something, but he was celebrating a victory. But I guess it wasn’t as good a victory.”
As well as that, Trump couldn’t help to mention their previous relationship. “We were very friendly. I got along with him great,” he continued to tell the long statement. Trump seemed to be confirming that their connection went pretty well back then. “He used to like me a lot. I think when I ran for politics, that relationship busted up. … I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me, it wouldn’t have any impact on me.”
History Repeats Itself
Trump wasn’t the first to start doubting the justice, as he did when it came to Combs’ future. During his May press briefing, held in the Oval Office, the ex-president had a similar conversation with Fox News reporter Peter Doocy. Back then, Trump also responded similarly, saying he would “look at the facts” of the case. At the same time, he stated that he is not going to support a pardon for his son-in-law, or anyone else, if he felt that the person was treated fairly by the system.
“I haven’t spoken to him in years,” Trump stated when Doocy asked if he had the opportunity to talk with Combs about his case. “If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me, it wouldn’t have any impact on me,” he added for further clarification of his position.
Sean Combs’ struggle with the court and legal system is still ongoing, as it has only recently turned out with the conviction at the end of July. He was freed of all the most serious charges, although the only offense that was left and confirmed with a guilty verdict now may give him up to 20 years in prison. It is only early October 3 when the authorities will hand down a final verdict.
Comments from a public figure such as Trump still give a reason to discuss the case again and again, as well as what-ifs and various speculation regarding justice, and especially celebrity justice. Trump’s personal connection and former friendship twithSean seem to cause doubts in some minds, as well as his words about looking into the case for an intervention, although his famous “look at the facts” standstill keeps up.
“He was celebrating a victory,” Trump’s words for Combs also included, back on Newsmax. “But I guess it wasn’t as good a victory.”
The excerpt from the full interview between Trump and Finnerty was released on X (previously Twitter) for further comments from political fans, hip-hop enthusiasts, or those who are simply interested in the former president’s future steps. However, at the moment, there is no data about possible developments and whether Donald Trump has any change in mind when it comes to Sean “Diddy” Combs.
The final answer will still need to wait until October, when the jail sentence is planned to take place. In the meantime newsfeed will not stop talking about Trump’s interesting words about the crime, verdicts, and Seafansfuns.
