Star Trek’s Strange New Worlds Season 3 Drops Full Trailer

The final trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is here, and it’s much more than the sneak peek audiences were given back in April. Coming after some time, Paramount+ debuted the official trailer for season 3 last night. The trailer was shown during season 2 episode 14, and serves as a first look for the new season, which premieres July 17, 2025.

Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds built up to a season finale that saw the Enterprise crew under attack from several Gorn invaders who had overrun a Federation colony world. In the process, several crew members, along with other hostages, had been taken captive by the Gorn, and it was up to Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) to make a tough call: follow Starfleet orders and abandon the mission or disobey direct orders to risk a rescue operation. As one would expect of Pike, he chose the former, and the season 3 trailer picks up from that moment.

It’s been more than a year since we first got a glimpse at the beginning of season 3 during New York City Comic-Con. The footage released last October set the tone for a continuation of season 2, kicking off with a fast-paced space battle that sees the Enterprise under heavy fire from the Gorn attackers. A new trailer that follows up on last year’s NYC Comic-Con clip from Strange New Worlds season 3 shows that things will not be going easily for the U.S.S. Enterprise crew any time soon.

Though the season 3 trailer doesn’t quite finish the job and give viewers an idea of how things might wrap up for the conflict with the Gorn, it does at least hint at what might be at stake and several new threats the crew will face in the new season. Tellingly, it was revealed back in April that the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will follow up on the story of the Gorn invasion and conclude it in season 3.

While the story of the Gorn will play through to season 3, there is also mention of a new enemy that will be added into the mix in season 3. The new villain that Pike’s crew face will test them to their limits and beyond, pushing them not just as space explorers and Starfleet officers, but also as friends, as human beings with values and emotions that are tested as a result.

Paramount+ has also given a brief description of what to expect when it comes to story and genre with season 3 of Strange New Worlds. Described as the next phase in development and storytelling for the series, the season will expand on the storytelling to include episodes that can be spiritual, daring, romantic, comedic, heroic, and mysterious. The action-adventure elements from previous seasons will also continue, but the season will also mix in other genres not yet explored in any Star Trek franchise series.

The full crew cast will return for the third season as main and recurring cast members were all set to reprise their roles, but there are several new cast additions and guest stars to be found. Some of the most notable new actors joining the series are Cillian O’ Sullivan, who will be joining as a new series regular in the role of Dr. Roger Korby, a character originally portrayed by Michael Strong on Star Trek: The Original Series.

In the timeline of Strange New Worlds, Korby is a famed archaeologist with particular expertise in medical archaeology, who is the long-lost fiancé of Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush). Korby will be returning to the ship following being long lost and presumed dead following the events of season 1, which will undoubtedly cause some complications for Chapel, as she has since moved on with Spock (Ethan Peck).

Guest stars Rhys Darby and Patton Oswalt are also joining the cast for season 3, with some of the most notable set pieces in the April teaser, including a villain scene with Darby, an animated brief moment, a tense and emotional moment between Spock and Zachary Quinto’s Vulcans from Star Trek: Discovery, and a moment with Oswalt. In what could be a recurring role, Oswalt will reprise his role as the same Vulcan that appears in the trailer for season 3, seen sharing a moment with Spock.

In a notable and key moment during the new trailer, James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) is seen briefly taking a seat in the Enterprise captain’s chair. It remains unclear as to why or how Kirk is commanding the Enterprise in the moment, but the season will see Kirk briefly take a shot at captaincy under the tutelage of Pike. In the scene, Kirk is offered the chair by Pike, who tells the younger Kirk about the significance and weight of making command decisions: “The choices you make in that chair, they are yours to make and yours to live with.”

The preview trailer ends on a lighter note with one of the more comedic beats in the trailer as Spock takes it upon himself to educate Oswalt’s Vulcan in the art of a “high five.” The pair successfully performs the high-five trick with Spock offering another for good measure as he is asked to go “down low.” Pulling the now classic “too slow” prank on the alien, Spock is met with a confused Vulcan asking, “Why would you do that?” With a cold Spock stare, the legendary Vulcan captain simply responds, “Because you are too slow.”

Premiere Date and Release Schedule

Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on Paramount+ on Thursday, July 17, 2025. New episodes of Strange New Worlds season 3 will be released every Thursday until September 11, 2025.
